ElastoFlake - a spray coating resin

ElastoFlake is a high-quality polyurethane resin that saves time, effort and money during all kinds of pipe repair projects

High performance in all environments

ElastoFlake coating resin is especially developed for plastic, but is also suitable for other pipe materials such as stainless steel, concrete, copper and cast iron, to name a few. This versatility makes it the perfect choice for most sewage and drain pipe environments. ElastoFlake can also be used alongside other sewer renovation solutions for a variety of applications, such as spot repairs and connecting pipelines.

Proven durability

Coating with ElastoFlake increases the lifespan of pipes. The self-supporting polyurethane material is highly resistant to pressure, detergents and other chemicals, and grease. ElastoFlake’s smooth, slick surface also ensures minimal waste adhesion and improved flow capacity. Its antibacterial characteristics also make it ideal for sewage pipeline renovation.

In 2013, ElastoFlake met the strict requirements of VTT Technical Research Center of Finland’s expert services, and was granted a VTT product certification. In 2018 Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik, DIBt, granted a certificate for ElastoFlake General Building Approval/General Design Certification No. Z-42.3-565 and in 2019 ElastoFlake was approved by Denmark’s Teknologisk institut.

Save valuable time

When it comes to renovation projects, time is money. ElastoFlake dries and cures in minutes, making it very efficient to work with – no need for unnecessary waiting times.

Elasticity makes ElastoFlake extremely versatile

Thanks to its high elasticity, ElastoFlake is resistant to cracks and tension caused by thermal expansion or other mechanical stress. It also adapts perfectly to changes in the axial and radial size of the pipe.

ElastoFlake withstands very large temperature variations and can be applied to a variety of drain and sewage environments, including industrial sewer systems.

Relining Group ElastoFlake

ElastoTec pipe coating systems

ElastoTec coating equipment are specially designed and developed for use with ElastoFlake material. These next-generation machines have features that intelligently guide your work enabling high-quality coating results.

Intelligently guides your work

ElastoTec, available in two sizes – M and L, and its intelligent user interface guides you step by step through your work, and is also simple to maintain and service. You can manage and control ElastoTec system functions through its easy-to-use touchscreen interface, and with the handy wireless remote you can operate the system from a distance of up to 100 meters. You can also get a resin consumption data report from the systems, that shows exact wall thickness and removes the guesswork.

Easy to transport

The ElastoTec relining system is designed to make the on-site workflow as easy as possible. The compact unit is easy to transport to and move around the renovation site, saving time and effort. ElastoTec M is specially designed with mobility in mind. ElastoTec M is a perfect choice for sewage and drain service, maintenance, and spot repairs.

CE-certified, no compressed air

Instead of heavy compressed air, the ElastoTec system utilizes a hydraulic mechanism that requires less pressure to operate. That means no risk of dangerous bursts due to excess pressure.

All parts and modules have a protective covering. ElastoTec systems are also CE-certified and complies with all applicable EU product safety directives.

Functionalities that increase efficiency

  • Get step-by-step guidance in six languages  from the easy-to-use touchscreen
  • Control wirelessly with a 100-meter-range remote
  • Save material consumption data from the system to a USB stick to help you with budgeting, material purchasing, and assigning costs per apartment
  • Increase work safety with excess pressure reporting
  • Easily monitor and adjust material mixing ratios
  • Control material flow more accurately with real-time increase of mass in 10 gram increments
  • Use all year round – circulation mode stops the relining material from thickening in cold conditions by pre-use warmings
  • Make your workflow more efficient – no need to empty and clean tanks or hoses between jobs
  • Set a time delay for system valves and spinners

Frequently asked questions

Polyurethanes are plastic polymers made by combining diisocyanates and polyols. Polyurethanes are versatile, modern, safe and environmentally friendly. Polyurethane exists in various forms and these coatings can be formulated to be fast or slow curing, flexible or stiff, glossy, opaque or transparent. For this reason it is the material of choice for a broad range of end-user applications such as:

• building insulation
• coatings
• adhesives etc.

Polyurethanes are known of their high resistance to weathering, solvents, and mechanical damage. The rapid and exothermic nature of the polyurethane reaction provides many application benefits like fast setting and cold temperature curing ability, without compromising their performance characteristics. No heat is needed during the application to ensure the polyurethane will cure and the coating can be sprayed to almost any thickness on any diameter of length of the pipe. If polyurethane is applied correctly, it can last for several decades.

Relining of equipment consists of sewer and drain cleaning equipment to prepare the pipe for spray relining. The preparations work require also drying of a pipeline with a powerfull heater. Pipe coating equipment consist of a spray coating system or that applies the coating to inner walls of the host pipe whit a rotating spray head. With Relining Group a range of systems are available depending how much the system is being in active use and how long lines are needed to be rehabilitated. A Relining Group pulling device will create a smooth, steady and evenly sprayed outcome of the coated pipe. For monitoring the cleaning and spray coating process a sewer inspection camera, a monitor and a recorder is required.

One of the significant advantages of a polyurethane coating is its relatively fast cure time compared to an epoxy coating. Epoxies typically cure in a matter of hours to days, whereas polyurethanes may be handled in a matter of minutes. The application of the epoxy materials to meet a necessary wall thickness may take multiple days to complete- where a bypass piping system may also be necessary.
Second advantage that polyurethane has is, that it is highly elastic where epoxy when cured, is very brittle plastic. Due this attribute, epoxy may crack more easily while the host pipe is experiencing thermal expansion or exposed to pressure. Also, the coating delamination from the host pipe may occur with epoxy because the slight shrinkage of the epoxy coating after curing.

Epoxy advantages are that its less moisture sensitive while applied, where a host pipe for applying polyurethane must be completely dry, or the polyurethane will react with the moisture. On the other hand, right bonding to the host pipe cannot be guaranteed if there is moisture or water in the host pipe, while applying epoxy. Also epoxy coatings are more resistant to a wide range of aggressive chemicals such as sulfuric acid. However, polyurethane coatings exhibit superior resistance to lactic acids.

Inside of the pipe is coated with a two-part polyurethane or polyurea mixture that consists of a resin and a curing agent. The material is mixed with a help of a rotating spray head that will create a durable coating inside the pipe. A powerfull pipe coating system is needed for spinning the spray head, so that the centrifugal force will throw the material to the surface of the pipe. Sprayd-in-place pipe method will compleately coat the inside diameters of sewer and drain pipes including straight runs and around bends and elbows.
